You are right, William. There is a desperate need for IDE's that support HTML5 - no piece of software is up for the job. With Flash Professional, designers are used to work freely, with interactivity, motion guides, ActionScript 3.0, etc.

With HTML5 you are at par, with approx. Flash 5 - that is not satisfying the demanding solutions. Time will show, what tools will make it economical practical to develop solutions like the one you did with HTML5, but we may be well into summer, next year - before a more clear answer can be found.

I am primarily a Flash Developer and have owned my own business doing so for the last 4 years.

One client wanted an interactive application viewable in iPad, so we had to create in HTML5 what I usually would do with Flash. Indeed, the performance issues are almost identical! Only, HTML5 was about 3X harder because I had to do all the coding from scratch.

Here is the application that we created: http://media.invitrogen.com.edgesuite.net/Virtual-Demo/VirtualDemo.html

This would otherwise be easily done with Flash.

Thanks again, Doug. Since I got my own system updated, I didn't realize, that Pantone made an update in July, that seems to address the issues. I update the post to reflect the updates.

I just found a very thorough white paper from Pantone that includes more detailed instructions on installing the PANTONE PLUS digital libraries, plus other useful information. Highly recommended:

“PANTONE PLUS for Design and Production: The Whys and Hows of Migrating Your Workflow to Expanded Color Choices” by Pariah S. Burke

www.pantone.com/downloads/categories/pdfs/PlusLibrariesWhitePaper1_11.pdf

This next one reads more like a press release, but it makes a good supplementary introduction to the PANTONE PLUS series:

Hi, Doug. I have updated the files so they now contain all nine aco-files (and no acb files).

Thanks for letting me know :-)

FOLLOW-UP: For those experiencing similar problems, I was able to extract the PANTONE® PLUS Digital Libraries from the installer package by choosing a thumb drive as the install location in place of my hard drive. This created a folder called "tmp", which included all 9 libraries in all 3 file formats (.acb, .aco, .ai).

Thanks for this!

However, there's a problem in the Adobe Photoshop > Color Swatches folder. Half of the files are in the correct .aco format, while the other half are in the .acb format, which Photoshop cannot read (at least in CS2). Those libraries therefore will not appear in Photoshop's Swatches menu. Any chance you could fix this?

(To your credit, Pantone+'s official installation package fails to install anything whatsoever in that folder, which means that none of the libraries will appear in Photoshop CS2.)

Yes, I know - strange title. It derrives from "The King is dead. Long live the King" - a well known phrase, when a new monarch is proclaimed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_is_dead._Long_live_the_King.)

In this regard, it refers to the old Flash Player, that made banners and simple transitions, because of lack of HTML features. The new Flash platform, proclaimed with Flash Player 11, aims at a different segment, with a high focus on interactivity, games, 3D and interactive experiences.

That is what I see as a new era for Flash, and we will see a completely differnt kind of interactive experiences in the coming year, than we have been used to, previously.

Hej, Helle.
